This course aims to introduce students to basic concepts in the field of civilization studies. It primarily focuses on the major philosophical approaches that are employed to account for the rise and fall of civilizations. It also explores the factors that contributed to the growth of civilizations and their maturity, covering the political, economic, social, religious, and cultural aspects of such processes. The course hopes to reinforce such fundamental values as interfaith dialogue, intercultural communication, dialogue between and among civilizations, respect for others, and human rights.

أهداف المادة

This course aims to explain and clarify to the students the elements that make a civilization and promote attitudes that emphasize tolerance and multiculturalism

• Know and understand the concept of civilization.
• Know and understand the concept of culture and its various processes.
• Differentiate between civilization, culture, and society
• Know and understand the various elements that make a civilization.
• Display critical and analytic skills in dealing with human civilisation.
• Analyze the cumulative nature of civilisation and the way civilisations interact with and feed into each other.
• Use library and other tools to search for information relevant to this topic.
• Analyze and evaluate human actions and thoughts in the context which produced them.
• Express ideas and opinions that reflect intellectual consciousness and cultural awareness.
• Recognize and explain the mutual relationship between the material aspects of our world and the intellectual and cultural aspects.
• Show readiness and ability to exchange ideas with others and express respect to different perspectives.
• Be more capable of engaging in mature discussions about the Western Civilization
• Display insight and take an active role in dealing with global challenges.
• Reflect political and cultural sensitivity as to the process of social comprehensive development.
• To reconcile local cultural specifics with universal values.
